CPT Editorial Panel Updates Agenda for April-May 2026 Meeting

Pre-meeting scheduled to discuss changes to Appendix S (taxonomy for AI-enabled codes).

The CPT Editorial Panel (Panel) has issued an updated agenda for its upcoming meeting in Boston, MA, from April 30 to May 2, 2026. Additional updates to the proposed agenda will be posted on April 17 and 24. There appears to be only one change to the agenda:

  • Tab 28 (Biofeedback Training – Revise 90912) has been withdrawn.

This is the second of three Panel meetings for the 2028 CPT cycle. Category I codes approved at this meeting that require survey by the RVS Update Committee (RUC) will be surveyed for the September 2026 RUC meeting.

Code Applications for AI-Enabled Medical Services

As has been typical for recent meetings, there are numerous Category III code (emerging technology) applications for AI-enabled medical services. What is less common is that, at this meeting, there is a code application for a Category I code for an AI-enabled medical service: coronary fractional flow reserve with AI and 3D functional mapping (Tab 31). Currently, there are only three Category I AI-enabled codes in the 2026 CPT book.

The agenda also includes several Category I code applications for AI-enabled Multianalyte Assays with Algorithmic Analyses (MAAA) codes. These are a specialized subset of CPT codes used to report complex laboratory tests that analyze multiple components (such as DNA, RNA, or proteins) and produce a numeric score or probability for a clinical condition.

Pre-Meeting to Discuss Taxonomy for CPT AI Codes

As mentioned in my update when the agenda was originally released on April 3, a revised version of a proposal discussed at the previous Panel meeting to update Appendix S, which describes the taxonomy for AI-enabled CPT codes, is back on the agenda for this meeting.

Due to interest in this tab, the AMA announced it will host a virtual meeting on April 16 to discuss it with Interested Parties and CPT Advisors ahead of the Panel meeting.
