Results from the September 2026 CPT Meeting Released
For the first time, meeting minutes will also be released.
The American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Editorial Panel (Panel) posted CPT Panel Actions on its website, a high-level summary of the Panel's decisions from the September 2026 meeting. The September 2026 meeting is the final CPT meeting for the CY 2028 CPT/Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) cycle.
The January 2027 AMA RVS Update Committee (RUC) meeting will review accepted Category I codes requiring a survey. These codes will take effect on January 1, 2028.
Accepted Category III codes will be released on or around October 1 and will take effect on January 1, 2027.
Meeting Minutes to Be Publicly Released for the First Time
As part of its first effort to loosen confidentiality requirements, the Panel will release minutes from its September meeting on October 30. This increased transparency is intended to give stakeholders greater visibility into the Panel’s process. Recently, both CPT and RUC have been under heightened scrutiny by the Trump Administration, members of Congress, and other stakeholders.
Schedule for the 2029 CPT Cycle
For the first of its three meetings in the 2029 CPT cycle, the Panel will meet in Los Angeles, CA, from February 4 to 6, 2027. Code proposals are due November 2, and the public agenda will be available on December 4.
